food, glorious food!
Today, Lucie had her first taste of "solid" food! We mixed together some rice cereal and milk and Travis added a little mashed up banana as well. She loved it! Of course! Lucie loves to eat and solid food didn't faze her one bit. Though, I do think she was more interested in chewing/sucking on the spoon than actually eating. I'm not sure if she really swallowed any food, but she's practicing. I guess I'll find out how much she ate when I change her diaper...

Adventures in Babysitting
Well, I'm back at work. My maternity leave is over. I thought about extending it, was certain I wanted to wait a few more months, but my office is really busy and wanted me back. Which is a very good thing.
I'm back in the office three days a week. It's a great schedule. I actually love my job and find it low stress, so it has been easy to slip back into the daily grind. The best part about it is Lucie's new babysitter: my mom!
My mom retired this year so she could babysit Lucie. Isn't that awesome! We couldn't ask for a better situation.
So far, my mom has mastered at least two of the three strollers and works the car seat like a pro! She and Lucie go on daily walks, mostly around the cemetery. It sounds creepy, but actually it is a great hill work out and quite pretty.
Lucie is very happy with the situation. I wish I could say she really missed me on my first day away from her, but I think she had too much fun with Grandma to remember I wasn't there!

LA grandma and grandpa
Last weekend, Lucie got a visit from Grandma and Grandpa from down south. She got to show them all her new tricks, including drooling and grabbing her feet. We went out to lunch a super yummy frenchie restaurant in Sausalito called Le Garage. Grandpa showed Lucie all the fancy sailboats on the water.
Grandma brought Lucie her quilt from my LA baby shower. It's super cute! Everyone at the shower decorated a quilt square and then Travis's mom sewed them all together. It's a nice way to make a keepsake. Hopefully Lucie gets to meet everyone who helped out soon.
The last day Travis's parents were in town was my first day back at work. So, Lucie got to have two grandmas and a grandpa babysit. Needless to say, I came home to a whole new booty of toys. I think she may have been spoiled while with the grandparents!

kauai 2010
My awesome parents took our entire family to Kauai this summer! We rented an amazing house in Poipu for nine days. The house was super nice and had a really great pool. The nieces, especially Mirabelle, had a hard time getting out of the pool. She must have swam for four hours every day. We adults got tired just watching her!
Our first adventure was down the road to Poipu beach. That beach is super beautiful and a good place for the kiddos to swim. Lucie even got her feet wet - her first time in the ocean!
Here is everyone at Poipu Beach, so happy to be in Hawaii after the long flight. (all three kids were awesome on the plane by the way).
Lucie getting her feet wet for the first time!
Every morning and evening we were in the pool. Even Lucie enjoyed. OK, she kind of just sat in her floatie and didn't seem to care one way or the other as long as she had her hand or pacifier to suck on.
After all that swimming, we had some veg-out time in front of the TV. Here are the cousins relaxing after a hard day's swim:
We also checked out some other beaches, including Tunnels. It rained at first, but ended up being a really nice day for most of the time we were there. That was typical weather for the trip.
We also checked out Waimea canyon. We started on a hike that ubruptly headed down the canyon at a fast decline, which seems great at first until you realize that you will also have to hike back up. We abandoned that hike pretty quickly and went for some shave ice instead!
Once of the best adventures was a canoe trip to a jumgle hike. The hike was so muddy and slippery that i ended up walking barefoot while carrying Lucie in the bjorn. I felt very native. The hike ended at Hidden Falls, but I don't have any photos. Megan has plenty though, so look at her blog.
LAter in the week, we took a "catamaran" up the Napoli coast. It was a great trip, though I had a death grip on Lucie the whole time. It was my first time nursing while on a speed boat on the ocean! I had bough a little mini life jacket for Lucie, that we didn't end up having to use, thankfully. Everyone had a safe and fun time on the boat. We even got some snorkeling in!
Kauai was a blast. We had plenty of adventures, and when we didn't want any more, we got some shave ice and relaxed at the house. Of course, Mark never tired of adventures so he and Travis went on a crazy hike through some old tunnels in the middle of the island that were once used for water transport. They hiked all day on a pretty gnarly trail. When they got back, it looked like they'd been in a cat fight, they were so scratched up! I guess there was a lot of bush wacking on the trail. Crazy guys.
The guys also had fun fishing and were even kind of successful. They caught some rock fish or something like that. Anyway, we ate some for dinner and none of us died! Success for sure!
The cousins had a good time together, though it's a little hard for Mira and May to play with Lucie. They love it when she holds their hand or looks at them. We tried for a coordinating outfit cousins photo, but eh... you can see the best results below:
For our last day, we had the brilliant idea of hanging out at the Grand Hyatt before our plane ride. The Hyatt has amazing pools and a great waterslide. Lucie found it all very relaxing.
Now, where to go next year...
