a bicycle built for two

Santa (I) gave Lucie a bike seat for Christmas. It is the ibert, which is the seat that attaches in the front of the bike, so the rider can see the child all the time. i'm not a worry wort, but i like the idea of seeing lucie without having to turn around.
we met my extended family and Grandma and Grandpa Theobald in Carmel after Christmas to test out the new seat. We couldn't have picked a prettier location for a first ride. though, it was a bit cold and lucie fell asleep during our long ride, poor thing.
We can't wait for the weather to warm up so we can take more rides around town. it's going to be a fun summer!

Merry Christmas! Like kids everywhere, Lucie woke up at the crack of dawn Christmas morning. She must have been excited for her first Christmas! I know we were!
We spent the morning at home and opened presents and ate breakfast. I made crab cake benedicts, that turned out just OK.

Lucie has a LOT of presents to open at our house, thanks to Grandma and Grandpa Theobald and hew aunts and uncles on that side.

Lucie really got into the actual opening of the presents. Though, I can't say she didn't like the box and wrapping as much as the toy itself. oh well...

Trav helped Lucie open her stocking, which is my favorite gift to open. My family does awesome stockings. We get two; one from my mom and one from Betsy! This year, I made Lucie's stocking. I barely finished before Christmas. I stayed up really late the weekend before Christmas cross stitching and watching sappy, but awesome Christmas movies. But I got it done (with some help from my sister) and it looks great. Just don't tell Lucie I filled it with her existing toys. I think she knows, judging by this picture:

After breakfast, we went up to Napa. Even though our church didn't have a service on Christmas day, Lucie wore her fancy Christmas dress anyway. All the cousins did. It's more fun like that.

We had a lot of fun and excitement. Lucie's first experience with crackers (the English Christmas toy/noise maker tradition) was a little tearful, but nothing that couldn't be fixed. and of course, we tried (somewhat successfully) to get a picture of the cousins in their nice dresses and all looking at the camera. i think mirabelle's getting better at holding lucie instead of strangling her. what do you think?

Lucie got a little baby in her stocking from my mom after we noticed she loved the baby Jesus at my parent's church.

After dinner we changed into comfy, but still holiday themed clothes and played with our new toys.

It was a wonderful Christmas for the whole family!

babies and more babies

we are so happy that a lot of our friends have babies or are starting to have babies. all of us went to the baby shower for baby French this december. couples showers are brilliant. plus lucie got to hang out with all the aunties and uncles and we got to meet sweet little sid.

baby it's cold outside

one of the best things about our neighborhood is the local nursery. of course, trav is stoked to have a nursery within walking distance of our house.
my favorite part of the west side nursery is the Christmas house. during Christmas, the nursery opens up the house on the back of the lot and blings it out with tons of Christmas trees and decorations. it's magical!
we took lucie to see the trees and the lights and picked out her first Christmas ornament. actually, i picked out the ornament and ended up getting two because i couldn't decide between a sweet pair of ballet slippers or a bright red mushroom.
lucie liked walking around the trees and even got to ride on a reindeer!
Christmas is coming!

Discover!

I took Lucie to the Discovery Museum for the first time today. It was a hit! She LOVED it! Granted, she is on the young side for all the activities the museum offers, but Lucie loves watching little kids and loves pretending she can walk. So we walked on the "lily pond", explored the rabbit hole, and hung out in the rain tunnel. Hey, I was impressed that I could fit in the rain tunnel! I think that was Lucie's favorite thing there, besides watching all the other kids. I can't wait for her to be able to walk or crawl on her own so she can discover even more! Yeah science!
